Final Book- Yukiko Miyazawa

Framed

Look at the world around you. Life is more than a hashtag and the glamorous filtered photos of everyone’s seemingly exciting, adventurous, beautiful, and unique lives. There is more going on outside of social media’s frame of reference. All that can be seen are things at their best. When we see these things, we tend to compare it with our own seemingly dull, stagnant, ordinary lives. What we see on social media is everyone’s personal project creating a portfolio of their own lives filtered to frame their utmost-finest self.
With this series of images, entitled Framed, it is my hope to bring to attention the beauty of the ordinary, the exciting in the dull, the liveliness in the stagnant and ordinary, taking place in varying locations alike in their purpose; in this case tables, desks, counters, etc. By composing images with frames to symbolize what could potentially be a status update or post that one would see on social media, having the outside of the frame be the bigger picture and the inside be what would be glorified, I hope to visualize the idea that the ‘ordinary’ life is exciting, beautiful, and unique.
